Mental Clutter Creates Physical Clutter
I have found this to be true for me personally. When life throws things at me that I’m not ready for or didn’t see coming, the clutter begins to build, just as the tension begins to tighten in my neck muscles.
Over the weekend I purchased a book that was referred to me and it is absolutely fabulous…and I’m only on Chapter 4!! Karen Kingston’s Clear Your Clutter with Feng Shui . It is so interesting when you look at your environment as an energy force and the fact that clutter is “sticky” and sucks up energy and keeps it from flowing. What we all need in our life is FLOW of energy!! Giving room for wonderful things to come into your life rather than pushing them out with the piles of clutter. It doesn’t take much clutter to stagnant your surroundings, so if we have more than a little, it should be such a motivator to get it OUT!! Do you want more good stuff in your life? Wouldn’t it be nice to get a big check in the mail? I’ve heard of it happening. Karen Kingston said one of her clients started decluttering and received a check for $8,000.00. Not a bad paycheck for doing something for yourself!! There is no guarantee that money will flow your way, but I truly believe that you cannot receive until you give room to receive.
That said, I have been spending the last few weeks repurging my home. It looks a bit junky when you walk in the house right now, but I’m moving things out. My kitchen cabinets are beautiful!! As a cluttered, I am assuming that I will repurge at least a few more times before things look fabulous throughout my home.
If you are a clutterer, don’t wallow in feeling bad about it! Clutter makes you feel bad and when you feel bad you clutter! Find a little spot in your home and make it a beautiful sanctuary. Start small and let it spread. Only you can truly free yourself from your clutter. If you need help digging your way out, contact a friend or family member to come and be a clutter buddy, or contact a professional organizer in your area. Find someone you feel comfortable with…that you ‘click’ with. If the first person doesn’t click, find another one that does. Find someone who you feel truly cares about you and your hopes for your life, not just someone who starts tossing your stuff in trash bags. It is SO much more about your life than your clutter. I for one truly care about your life and I hope that you will take the steps necessary to make it FABULOUS!!
How do you plan your day?
I saw a discussion online today about whether people used paper calendars or electronic calendars. Someone suggested PlannerPages and they look great. I am on the fence right now but I think I might just jump. Here are the details from their website:
“At last you can end the clutter of multiple lists of things to do! The Planner Pad organizer’s unique format lets you organize all your business and personal activities in one place and by category. It helps balance everything you do – in your career, home and personal life.
Unlike ordinary day planners, the Planner Pad organizer devotes a two-page spread for each week. You can see an entire weeks’ worth of planning with one look.
Each Page Works like a Funnel to find priorities, organize work flow, and plan personal activities “
What do you use for your calendar?
Always a Recovering Clutterer!!!!
So, just like you are never cured of being an alcoholic, you are never cured of being a clutterer =( . Little one has been sick so things have been put on the back burner. Not to mention that the wardrobe change is kicking the laundry room’s tail!! My big boys have been out of town visiting Kennedy Space Center to see the shuttle launch. I think it is something my 7-year-old will remember forever and the time he gets to spend with his dad is the best part!
So, I’m catching up with the house and also seeking out some hands on organizing work. Hope to see that pan out.
Moving toward the Goal
I officially joined NAPO today!! That is the National Association of Professional Organization. This marks a huge step forward for me. The website www.napo.net is a great resource for organizing help. I suggest that you go to the site and see what it has to offer and enjoy.
Menu Planning
I absolutely hate planning what we are going to have for dinner during the week! I get very little input from the family and that is frustrating. Luckily we had a book fair at my son’s school this week and I found a cute little cookbook. I made my list and headed to the grocery store and now have most everything I need for 4 recipes. I usually have leftovers so we have encores a few days.
List for this week:
- Weeknight Ravioli Lasagna
- Tuna Noodle Casserole
- Coconut Shrimp and Rice
What are your plans for this week?
Yippie!! IKEA
I believe I am heading to IKEA this afernoon
Need a few things and I just love to look around at all the goodies. Since we don’t have a Container Store nearby I’m going to check out the organizing stuff at IKEA. The catalog doesn’t even begin to touch what they have on site so…maybe it is geeky but I love IKEA.
These are the days ;-)
Sick little one so not much gets done, especially when he doesn’t let you sleep the night before. I do not do well on little sleep.
Been reading up on how to better use WordPress…very impressive. Seems many people are using WordPress for business blogs, etc. Very interesting and hopefully fun
My dining room is actually looking pretty good these days. Keep the clutter off the table. Dusted and decluttered the hutch (wish it was enclosed, but whatever). I think I’ve finally dwindled the items on it down to things I actually really like rather than stuff that was just gifts or expensive. That stuff doesn’t matter, it is finding the right mix of items that you actually enjoy touching them to dust. The dog crate is still in the corner of the room, but that cannot be helped. Cannot wait for her outside area to be refurbished so she can have somewhere nice to stay without being stuck in the house.
Went through our DVDs and tossed the cases of most of them. We keep ours in CD holders so we can just flip through. DVD holders just take up too much space in our little house. Maybe now my friend’s 10 month-old won’t dump the entire box on the floor. He will be disappointed, but I like not having something extra to pick up
He’ll have to settle for dumping the toys instead.
Hope everyone has a very wonderful evening!! FRIDAY is on the way!! More projects to tackle and I am actually looking forward to them.
Helping Hands and my journey
There are lots of places to look for help with setting up a business. I just found out that one of my trusted mentors, Brenda Nicholson, the famous ADD Mom, has a great site where you can get info on biz as a mom. Check her out: http://momsbizkit.com/2010/03/if-you-build-it-will-they-come/ . You can sign up for her newsletter and get a download of Kit#1 for free.
As for me, while trying to wrangle the young’uns yesterday, I managed to clean out my fridge. I mean CLEAN out that bad boy! Hubby came home and surprised to see so much gone. One more area decluttered and beautified
What shall I do today? I’ll know it when I feel it :~~
Have a fab day!!
New Clutter Blog
Hi! My name is Happy and I am a CLUTTERER! I have a deep compassion for clutterers and I hope to find some way to inspire you to move forward and regain your life. I have had SO many mentors on my journey and I feel like I am finally on my way to “recovery”. I don’t believe you are ever completely free of being a clutterer, but I do believe you can control it. I have ADD and am now taking Strattera to control it. It isn’t a drastic change with meds but I do feel like I now I have “gumption” to tackle my clutter and also have the strong passion to help others do the same.
I don’t believe you are given such a burden in life (as ADD and cluttering have been in my life) without there being a reason. I believe my reason is to go out and help others who are dealing with this same issue. My goal is to complete some of the magnificent courses offered via teleconference relating to those with Chronic Disorganization, ADD, OCD, etc. I am so excited to have found these and hope they will help me to understand and relate to those with these issues. Having a strong background with the chronic disorganization and ADD will be helpful.
My mentors, just to name a few…. Marla Ciley the fabulous FlyLady at www.flylady.net; The wonderful ADD Mom herself Brenda Nicholson http://addmoms.com/ ; Mike Nelson at www.clutterless.org and who also wrote a fabulous book Stop Clutter From Stealing Your Life: Discover Why You Clutter and How You Can Stop ; Marcia Gracia’s forums and ebooks at http://www.getorganizednow.com/ . Ramona Creel at http://www.onlineorganizing.com/ . There are more but these are the big guns for me
BTW, what do you think of the name CLUTTERHAPPY ? I don’t know….I’m having a hard time with the naming thing
Any suggestions?
Blessings, Light, Peace, and Abundance to you!
Happy
